30° Festival di Hyères – 201530th Hyères Festival – 2015
Terminato lunedì uno degli appuntamenti imperdibili nel calendario della moda e della fotografia.
Parliamo ovviamente del Festival di Hyères che da 30 anni lancia talenti attraverso una 4/5 giorni all’insegna della scoperta, del relax e del bello tra concorsi, concerti, mostre e sfilate in un clima di vacanza. Tutto così anche stavolta a giudicare dalle immagini postate su Instagram, eppure l’edizione 2015 resterà negli annali per la ricorrenza del trentennale ma in particolare per la partecipazione di un uomo e di una maison simbolo della moda.
Dopo un accenno di partnership lo scorso anno, Chanel è infatti sbarcata a Hyères in grande stile addirittura con Karl Lagerfeld, direttore artistico della manifestazione, Virginie Viard, braccio destro di Karl e presidente della giuria moda, ed Eric Pfrunder, image director di Chanel e presidente della giuria fotografica. Giurie con nomi del calibro di Carine Roitfeld, Anna Mouglalis, Caroline de Maigret, Olivier Zahm, Anthony Vaccarello, India Madhavi, André Saraiva, Gerhard Steidl e Sølve Sundsbø.

#CONCORSO MODA#
Ma veniamo al nocciolo dando un’occhiata ai vincitori del concorso moda 2015: l’ambito Grand Prix della giuria Première Vision – 15.000 euro e due collaborazioni, una con Petit Bateau e soprattutto una con Chanel per la collezione Métiers d’Art – è andato alla tedesca Annelie Schubert e alle sue eleganti creazioni dal forte impatto grafico e materico.
Il Chloé Prix – sempre di 15.000 euro, tributato al designer che si avvicina maggiormente allo spirito fresco e femminile di Chloé – è stato conferito ad Anna Bornhold (Germania) e alle sue silhouette inusuali e nonchalant, mentre il premio della città di Hyères è stato assegnato a Yiyu Chen (Germania). Infine il premio speciale della giuria per i 30 anni della manifestazione (consistente in una collaborazione con la collezione Métiers d’Art) alle ispirazioni artistiche e ai colori delicati dell’olandese Wieke Sinnige.
Questi gli altri finalisti: Christina Braun (Germania), Sophie Harand (Francia), Heini-Maria Hynynen & Elina Äärelä (Finlandia), Elina Määttänen (Finlandia), Guillem Rodriguez Bernat (Spagna) e Sophie Sälekari (Finlandia).
#CONCORSO FOTOGRAFICO#
Venendo al concorso fotografico, il Grand Prix della giuria del valore di 15.000 euro è andato a Sjoerd Knibbeler (Olanda) e alla serie in cui Knibbeler è riuscito a fotografare qualcosa d’immateriale e mobile come il vento in modo poetico e sperimentale.

Premio della città di Hyères invece ai luoghi anonimi e desolati della quotidianità di Polly Tootal (Regno Unito), mentre il premio speciale della giuria per i 30 anni del Festival (sempre del valore di 15.000 euro) è stato attribuito alla ricerca artistico-antropologica sulla vita dei marinai, sull’idea del viaggio, della solitudine e del desiderio di Evangelia Kranioti (Grecia-Francia); queste le parole della giuria: “Si tratta di un lavoro a lungo termine, creato in oltre 9 anni. Siamo stati toccati dalla sua perseveranza, dalla tenacia e dall’umanità della sua opera. Ci siamo davvero innamorati del suo lavoro”.
Ed ecco gli altri finalisti: Jeannie Abert (Francia), Sushant Chhabria (India), Wawrzyniec Kolbusz (Polonia), David Magnusson (Svezia), Filippo Patrese (Italia), Thomas Rousset (Francia-Svizzera) e Oezden Yorulmaz (Germania-Regno Unito).
#MOSTRE#
Ricco come sempre il programma delle mostre – visitabili fino al 24 maggio – che quest’anno ha il suo punto di forza in Innovation, l’esposizione dedicata alla maison Chanel di Karl Lagerfeld e alla sua haute couture calata nella modernità e alimentata dalle sfide continue di un uomo votato a dare corpo ai propri sogni. Attraverso gli spettacolari modelli delle ultime collezioni si fa luce sul rigoroso processo creativo di Lagerfeld, sul suo lavoro a stretto contatto coi laboratori della casa e sul suo impegno nel plasmare meraviglie distruggendo conformismi e percorrendo strade nuove.

Ancora Lagerfeld ma versione fotografo per la mostra Three Worlds con cui si esplorano le immagini di un artista a 360 gradi che partendo da un’esigenza pratica ha scoperto un’altra via per far vivere visioni e desideri.
Enjoy presenta le sculture cinetiche, in bilico tra materiali semplici e raffinati, di Arnold Goron; un mondo colorato e spontaneo, in cui assume importanza la tendenza alla manualità come si trattasse di un antidoto alla digitalizzazione della quotidianità.
Sandringham Road Process è invece il lavoro con cui Lorenzo Vitturi – vincitore del Grand Prix della giuria fotografica 2014 – torna a Hyères. Sorta di evoluzione della serie premiata Dalston Anatomy, Sandringham Road Process parla in maniera diversa dei mutamenti del quartiere di Dalston. Qui gli scatti dei rifiuti trovati nella zona sono mixati con vari elementi per ottenere sculture, che successivamente fotografate, danno vita a un loop visivo.
In onore del vincitore del concorso moda 2014, Kenta Matsushige, è la mostra dell’ultima collezione Jardin Sculpté. Con essa il designer giapponese ha tradotto l’ispirazione proveniente dalle strutture minimali dell’architetto Carlo Scarpa e i ricordi della cultura nipponica con linee geometriche e tonalità pure da un lato e ninfee di piume e pattern di sbieco in stile kumiko dall’altro.
Ancora un approfondimento sui lavori più recenti di alcuni dei designer delle precedenti edizioni di Hyères con l’esposizione The Formers. Quest’anno è stata la volta di Cunnington & Sanderson, Liselore Frowijn, Marit Ilison, Satu Maaranen, Coralie Marabelle, Mareunrol’s, Louis Gabriel Nouchi, Roshi Porkar, Tiia Siren, Steven Tai e Yulia Yefimtchuk.
Perfettamente in linea con l’anima surrealista degli artisti transitati a Villa Noailles, i pezzi incredibili di Erik Halley nella mostra Surréaliste Attraction.

Si prosegue poi con due esposizioni dedicate al trentennale: Les 30 Ans du Festival per l’appunto con cui Antoine+Manuel raccontano tramite immagini “d’epoca” i momenti memorabili di 30 anni di manifestazione e gli scatti di Cécile Bortoletti raffiguranti i capi presentati e rigorosamente archiviati in un trentennio di concorsi.

Infine, tra Villa Noailles e la città di Hyères imperdibili: Powder Issue, sui servizi tematici della super rivista Exhibition Magazine, la libreria itinerante Tailor Books specializzata in libri fotografici di moda, rarità e curiosità, Sleepwalker, incentrata sulle opere anticonformiste nel solco di Haring e Basquiat di Gio Black Peter e Avant de Dire (Je T’Aime) dal film di Niki Noves.

The 30th edition of the International Festival of Fashion and Photography at Hyères has just finished. An historic edition due to the 30th anniversary but above all due to the participation of a symbol of fashion such as Chanel with Karl Lagerfeld, artistic director of the event, Virginie Viard, Karl’s right-hand woman and president of the fashion jury, and Eric Pfrunder, image director at Chanel and president of the photography jury. Juries made up of personalities like Carine Roitfeld, Anna Mouglalis, Caroline de Maigret, Olivier Zahm, Anthony Vaccarello, India Madhavi, André Saraiva, Gerhard Steidl and Sølve Sundsbø.

#FASHION COMPETITION#
But let’s get to the point having a look at the winners of the 2015 fashion competition. The Grand Prix of the Jury Première Vision (15.000 euros, a collaborative project with Chanel’s Métiers d’Art and a collaboration with Petit Bateau) went to Annelie Schubert (Germany) and her elegant and graphic creations.
The Chloé Prize (a grant of 15.000 euros) was given to Anna Bornhold (Germany) and her unusual and nonchalant silhouettes, while Yiyu Chen (Germany) was awarded the Prix of the city of Hyères. Finally, the mention of the jury on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Hyères Festival – consisting in a collaborative project with Chanel’s Métiers d’Art – went to Wieke Sinnige (Netherlands) and her mix of artistic inspirations and subtle colors.

Regarding the photo competition, the Grand Prix of the Photography Jury (15.000 euros) went to Sjoerd Knibbeler (Netherlands) and to his series centered on the role of wind.

The Prix of the city of Hyères was bestowed on Polly Tootal (United Kingdom) for her work on impersonal and desolate landscapes, while the Special Prize of the Photography Jury on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Hyères Festival (15.000 euros) went to the artistic-anthropologic research about the life of the sailors by Evangelia Kranioti (Greece-France). These were the words of the jury: “It is a long-term work, created over 9 years. We were touched by her perseverance, her tenacity and by the humanity of the oeuvre. We were truly enamored by her work”.

#EXHIBITIONS#
As usual the calendar of exhibitions (available for visits until the 24th of May) is impressive. Innovation is the show dedicated to the house of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and his modern haute couture. Through some extraordinary models you can discover the Lagerfeld’s creative process, his nonconformist fashion and his hard work along with Chanel workshops. On the other hand Three Worlds explores the work of Lagerfeld as photographer.

Enjoy presents the kinetic sculptures created by Arnold Goron; a colorful and spontaneous world characterized by artisan skills as antidote to the digitalization of everyday life.
Sandringham Road Process is instead the new work by Lorenzo Vitturi, a sort of evolution of the former Dalston Anatomy. In this case the pictures of the debris from a junkyard in Dalston are mixed with other elements and transformed into sculptures, which are later rephotographed to create a visual loop.
Jardin Sculpté is the exhibition dedicated to the last collection by Kenta Matsushige, the winner of the 2014 fashion competition. In this collection the Japanese designer translates the inspiration coming from the minimalist structures of the architect Carlo Scarpa and the reminders of the Orient through geometrical lines and pure colors on one hand and feather water-lilies and biased patterns that recall the technique of kumiko on the other hand.
Hyerès was also the occasion for an in-depth analysis about the recent works of the designers who participated to the previous editions of the festival with the exhibition The Formers. This year it concerned: Cunnington & Sanderson, Liselore Frowijn, Marit Ilison, Satu Maaranen, Coralie Marabelle, Mareunrol’s, Louis Gabriel Nouchi, Roshi Porkar, Tiia Siren, Steven Tai and Yulia Yefimtchuk.
The show Surréaliste Attraction (about the unbelievable pieces by Erik Halley) is perfectly in line with the surrealist artists who lived at Villa Noailles.

There also are two exhibitions dedicated to the anniversary: 1) Les 30 Ans du Festival – by Antoine+Manuel – tells the memorable moments of the festival through old photos and 2) Artifacts by Cécile Bortoletti collects pictures of the artifacts which have characterized 30 years of this unique event.
